FAQs

What ages do you teach?

All ages are welcome. I teach kids, teenagers, and adults, from complete beginners to returning musicians. A free trial is the easiest way to see whether the lesson length and teaching style feel right.

Do students need prior experience?

Not at all. Beginners are welcome, and I’ll guide them from the very basics. Students with experience can build on what they already know.

Where are in-person lessons located?

In-person lessons take place in my home music studio in Kapahulu, Honolulu.

Do you offer online piano lessons?

Yes. Online lessons are available for students with a piano or keyboard with at least 61 keys and a device that can join a video call.

Do you teach notation music?

Not in the traditional sense! My lessons focus on alphanumeric music theory, including chords, scales, chord progressions, and playing by ear, rather than reading classical sheet music. I want students to understand how music works and feel comfortable figuring things out on their own.

Do students need a piano at home?

I provide the piano during in-person lessons, but every student should have a piano or keyboard at home so they can practice between lessons. Online students need at least 61 keys.

Can parents sit in on lessons?

Yes. Parents and caregivers are welcome to observe.

What’s your cancellation policy?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but I’m flexible and do my best to find a make-up time when something unexpected comes up.

How do we pay for lessons?

Lessons are booked and billed monthly, with payment due at the start of each month. Payment can be made by Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or Apple Cash.
